Parish Nurse

The Parish Nurse Ministry, or the Faith Community Ministry as it is becoming to be known, is the churches response to Christ’s command to heal in addition to preaching and teaching. Parish nursing encompasses many different venues, often changing as societal changes take place.

The Parish Nurse, instead of a hands on ministry, is a resource person, often directing congregants to the proper health care provider or service. She/he also plans programs that are of interest to the congregation, such as Disaster preparedness, advanced directives (living wills), Medicare Part D explanatory sessions, as well as organizing blood drives at least twice a year, and a annual Health Fair in the summer.

Also, CPR classes are planned once a year, blood pressure checks are provided the third Sunday of each month between worship services, and a health related article is written and appears each month in the church newsletter.

The Gospel of Luke (the physician), Chapter 9, verse 2 says it all: “He sent them out to preach the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick”.
