John Wesley's Faith Crisis |

This Sunday we continue with our sermon series "Revival: Faith as John Wesley Lived It" based on the book by Adam Hamilton of the same title. We will be looking at Wesley's missionary journey to the colony of Georgia and his return, which includes a crisis and restoration of his faith. I wonder if you've ever tried to follow God's word and God's will and it didn't work out quite as planned. Well, we'll be talking about it. This is probably my favorite John Wesley story! Our handbell choir will play at the 11:00 AM service.
Our scripture focus is: Psalm 103 and James 1:3-4.

The first Circle meetings after the summer hiatus will be on September 18. Hope Circle meets at the church at 2:00 P.M. Love Circle meets at the church at 6:30 P.M. and Faith meets in a members’ home at 7:00 P.M. For more information call Becky Downey at 540-383-2664. UWF Sunday will be on September 24th The October meeting will be a joint meeting of all the Circles on October 16 at 6:30. We will enjoy a Pot Luck Salad meal. All women of the church are invited to attend. Delores Reid will be our speaker, sharing information about the Medical Supply Closet serving the Harrisonburg/Rockingham area and housed at Lacey Springs UMC.

Here's what we have coming up! _________________________ OLD NEWS: Nothing yet to report! :) _________________________ UPCOMING NEWS: THIS SATURDAY, September 9 @9am: Packing and Serving Lunches at HBC!! Join us as we make a warm meal for our friends experiencing homelessness and send them on their way with a packed lunch! Our menu is BBQ chicken sandwiches and sides but meet at HBC at 9am for a fun morning! SIGN UP HERE!!!! and text me ASAP if you need a ride at (540) 810-6691 so that I can reserve the bus if needed! :) Saturday, September 23: Gleaning Apples for SOSA We will be travelling up to Winchester, VA to glean apples for Society of St. Andrew! We will take a church bus so please SIGN UP HERE to ensure we have enough seats! Our meeting time in the morning is TBD (depending on what time we need to be at the orchard) but work will be finished around noon, which means we will be back home around 1:30/2pm that afternoon! Breakfast will be provided but please pack a water bottle, hat, and sunscreen! _________________________ OTHER NEWS: We're on Instagram!! I'm still setting it up but follow us and our DUMBUM adventures @dumbumyouth. I'm hoping this will really help our youth stay up-to-date with what is going on! _________________________ And as always, what's coming up! Socks and Underwear for the Children's Clothes Closet |

The number of families who are now visiting the Children's Clothes Closet at Mission Central is now over 950 total. Because of this we are finding that clothing and socks and underwear are going quickly. (They are allowed to get 2 pairs of underwear and socks at a visit.)
With "Back to School" sales currently going on at many of the stores, many with packages of socksa nd underwear on sale as well as packs that contain bonus pairs, I felt that this was a good time to highlight this need.
They are in need of both boys and girls sizes 4 to 14/16 (girls) and 4 to 18/20 boys for the underwear all sizes of socks. They said the boys particularly like the higher socks. Please place these items in the marked pink bin that is located in the hallway (under the quilts).

It's Operation Christmas Child Collection Time!!! |

We will be collecting items for the next 8 weeks and will have our packing party on November 11. This is a great project for our church, and these boxes make lots of children very happy! We will need the following items: 600 pencils 400 black ink pens 100 small balls 100 boxes of crayons 100 girl “wow” gifts* 100 wash cloths 100 boy “wow” gifts* 200 matchbox cars 100 small coloring books 100 small note pads 50 girl hair items 100 bars of soap 100 pencil sharpeners 100 soap holders 100 toothbrushes 100 toothbrush holders 100 glue sticks 100 jump ropes Packs of stickers *”wow” gifts could include small stuffed animals, dolls, musical instruments, interactive toy, puppets, hats, jewelry, markers, books, craft items, etc. ~Johna McFarland |

Soup and You will be returning on Wednesday, September 20th at noon. We will have two kinds of soup, bread and desserts. We plan to continue on third Wednesdays in October & November. Hope to see you there.! |
