O my Beloved, You are my shepherd,

I shall not want;
You bring me to green pastures for rest
and lead me beside still waters
renewing my spirit;
You restore my soul.
You lead me in the path of
Goodness to follow Loves way.
(Psalm 23, Paraphrase by Nan Merrill)

Well, with my Dad being in the hospital this week, I have received a primer on knowing God's care.  Through our family, friends, and church connections, our family has been cared for through prayer, visits, calls and texts.  Even down to the cats.

Having a hospital near us stocked with skilled staff and specialists of all kinds as well as needed connections, supplies and equipment has been a blessing. Not to mention the chaplain support.  Even someone to "watch our coming and going" as scripture says (Psalm 121:8).

There is a popular Christian song by Casting Crowns that says, "So I'll praise You in this storm / And I will lift my hands / For You are who You are / No matter where I am."  This has certainly been an unexpected storm!  We are thankful to God for all the care that we have experienced through you and so many others.

"Care" is a part of our calling as Christians, to care for each other.  It is what helps us to show who God is and who we are as Christian followers.  We know Jesus as the good shepherd. who cares for the sheep.  We will look at this on Sunday morning and celebrate Holy Communion together.

How are you doing with your Lenten spiritual disciplines?  I have set aside a time each day to focus and do some journaling and share with others in Bible study.  This week I will also be participating in a spiritual retreat.  (see below)  I encourage you to find one or two simple ways to be mindful of God this season in a different way.

Please Note:  I will be away this week attending the Five Day Academy for Spiritual Formation at Roslyn Retreat Center in Richmond.  This is a retreat sponsored by the Upper Room.  If you need pastoral care, please contact Karen Chamblee, our Lay Leader at 540-   or Michelle Weaver in the office 540-828-0890.  There is a pastor on call, if needed.

                     Lent Devotion Booklets are Available from Society of St. Andrew

In Sundays devotion in Hope Springs Eternal, Flower of Hope, the writer reminds us when all seems lost and broken, your love breaks through like a bold flower from the hard winter ground.  The Society of St. Andrew challenges us to remember our desperate 40 million children and adults here in the United States who suffer loss from hunger and struggle to put enough food on the table each day.  Does your daily spiritual focus this season include giving?  Every $3.00 you set aside for Society of St. Andrew will put 26 healthy meals on the plates of those who need it most, giving both you and them a blessing.

Grow Your Faith at Camp Overlook this Summer

(and BUMC offers Scholarships)!

I lift my eyes to the hills, where does my help come from?

My help comes from the Lord, creator of heaven and earth.

(Psalm 121:1)

Christian summer camp made a difference in my life and in my spiritual formation.  I attended worship, Sunday School, VBS. and youth group... Summer camp helped it all come together and grew my faith even more!  As I have listened at BUMC, so many people have told me stories of how they have been inspired at Camp Overlook!

I made life-long friends at camp.  I learned Bible lessons and songs that have stayed with me over the years.  I learned skills like canoeing, hiking, crafts, building a fire and cooking over a fire that I enjoy today.   Camp is a great way to have fun, learn a lot and get close to Jesus all in one week of the summer.

Bridgewater UMC is happy to partner with Camp Overlook to offer scholarships for half of the registration costs!   Learn more and register at campoverlook.org or call 540-2My-CAMP (540-269-2267).  As you make plans for camp this summer, just contact Whitney Reusser at dumbumyouth@gmail.com (or our church office) about our scholarship!

See you on the mountain!   Pastor Mary

Looking Ahead.... Coming on March 17th ....

Singing hymns are a great part of the Methodist tradition.  On Sunday, March 17 at the 8:30 and 11:00 services, guest musician Nathan May will be leading the congregation in hymn singing.
Above all sing spiritually. Have an eye to God in every word you sing.  Aim at pleasing Him more than yourself, or any other creature. In order to do this attend strictly to the sense of what you sing, and see that your heart is not carried away with the sound, but offered to God continually; so shall your singing be such as the Lord will approve here, and reward you when he cometh in the clouds of heaven.
 John Wesley
In addition to Nathan May, the Sanctuary Choir will sing for the 8:30 service and the Handbell Choir will share music at the 11:00 service.

To God be the Glory!  Blessings, Joan
