A Note from Pastor Mary

It's almost Thanksgiving, Everyone!  We have so much to be thankful for!  I'm praying that each of you, your friends, and families will have a happy and blessed Thanksgiving celebration.

For devotion, I offer you this litany based on Psalm 100 from Bishop Hope Morgan Ward.  It is reprinted from the website umcjustice.org from November 3, 2017 (with permission).

Litany for Thanksgiving:

Psalm 100 amplified

Hope Morgan Ward of the Raleigh episcopal area offers this prayer based on Psalm 100 for Thanksgiving.

Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!

We give thanks for this good earth, your gift to us and our home,
and we pray for wisdom and gentleness to care for your creation, O God.

Worship the Lord with gladness; come into God’s presence with singing.

We gather with grateful hearts, remembering your mercy and strength,

your justice and your compassion, your goodness and your grace.

Know that the Lord is God.

May we live what we know of you and strive for what you seek, O God.

We are God’s people, and the sheep of God’s pasture.

In humility we pray for the entire human family,
remembering those in need, and all who are alone, dishonored or excluded.

Enter God’s gates with thanksgiving and God’s courts with praise.

Move us through thanksgiving and praise to action.
Use us to heal wherever there is violence and harm.

Give thanks to God, bless God’s name.

May we embrace your just purpose, O God, and offer ourselves in prophetic witness.

For the Lord is good;

We pray for your goodness to flow outward, flooding this world with love.

God’s steadfast love endures forever,

We pray for your loving purpose in every life this day and into the days to come.

And God’s faithfulness to all generations.

Please continue to share the good news that our worship time is at 10 AM.

Keep inviting friends & neighbors to Sunday School at 9 AM & joyful, meaningful worship at 10 AM!

The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous,

and his ears are open to their cry.

When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears,

and rescues them from all their troubles.

Psalm 34: 15, 17

Kingsway Apple Tree

Kingsway Prison Ministry ministers to people in jail and who have been released from jail.  One of their ministries provides Christmas gifts for children of inmates - a gift, a game, and a Christian book.   The tree in the breezeway is filled with apples with gift requests for kids of various ages, boys and girls.  There is an envelope for contributions for the games, books and shipping.  The gifts should be returned UNWRAPPED to church during the month of November (11/30 deadline).  Kingsway also can use donations of wrapping paper which is sent with the gifts to where the kids are living to be wrapped and ready for Christmas.

Monetary donations can also be made to help with the inmate gifts (to 8600 prisoners in Virginia).  Thank you for your support of this important ministry.

For more information please contact Karen Chamblee.
