"Be Humble Stewards!"

by Joey Capuano

Scriptures: Matthew 6:19 - 21, Micah 6:8

Matthew 6:19-21

19 Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust[a] consume and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust[b] consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Micah 6:8

8 He has told you, O mortal, what is good,

and what does the Lord require of you

but to do justice and to love kindness

and to walk humbly with your God?

Here we are at Stewardship. Every year, this month presents an opportunity to come together as a Church community. But what many times happens is so much of what we think about is finances.

I get it. It's a fact of life: Finances are necessary. But another fact of life is that they are very stressful. They cause so much pain, suffering, and also many obstacles in relationships, up to and including ending those relationships.

Why is this, though? Maybe it's because we think of charitable giving and acts of philanthropy too much from a money mindset? God doesn't call us to reach into our money accounts, though, but rather to reach into our hearts and souls, with loving humility.

As we enter into Stewardship, instead of becoming uncomfortable because of the topic of money, let's view it as an opportunity to come together, sharing our gifts, talents, and most importantly our Faith with everyone we meet?

This may mean giving monetary donations to Churches, people in need, or other philanthropic organizations for some people who have the means to comfortably do so. I am not saying that there is anything wrong with that; it is an act of charity and love!

But, for some people, this isn't within their comfortable grasp right now. Acts of love through sharing of our gifts, our leadership and communication, and many other things are just as meaningful and important acts of charity and love!

Let's remember, though, that the MOST loving act that any of us can share is our Faith in God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. That is the true, complete, and LOVING meaning of Stewardship!

God bless,
Joey
