Hebrews 13: 1 - 3 & 5 - 8
13 Let mutual affection continue. 2 Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it. 3 Remember those who are in prison, as though you were in prison with them, those who are being tortured, as though you yourselves were being tortured.
5 Keep your lives free from the love of money, and be content with what you have, for he himself has said, “I will never leave you or forsake you.” 6 So we can say with confidence,
“The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can anyone do to me?”
7 Remember your leaders, those who spoke the word of God to you; consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith. 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

Mutual Love Towards ALL

These Scriptures really reached out to me on Monday, August 11. I was in a very celebratory mood because it was my brother Ricky’s - one of my best friends - birthday. I wanted to find a verse that talked about loving our siblings. In the original King James Version of the Bible, Hebrews 13: 1 talks about this clearly: “Let brotherly love continue.” I can always know that Ricky has me covered with that; his love for our whole family, his wife Cassidy, me, and his friends is so strong. We love you, too, Ricky, and Happy Birthday Blessings!

Then, when I looked for the NRSV Verse, I read further along in the chapter and was so inspired. With its inclusive language, we are reminded to love one another, love everyone, and to remember at all times all of our family in Christ, especially those most in need and those that face marginalization, ostracism, and injustice. Who is our guide in this? You guessed who - Jesus!
We can look to Jesus as our Guide, Teacher, and Shepherd! Remember what Pastor Mary has been preaching about this year, Jesus always shepherds us! And, Verse 8 brings a smile to my face and provides me with such comfort: 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
Just like Jesus was a Shepherd, Teacher, and Guide for His disciples, his followers, and everyone he encountered, He is the same for you and me; He is Eternal, always present!
I hope that this gives you as much hope, comfort, and a feeling of love that it did me this week! Many Blessings! And, please join me in wishing a Happy Birthday with endless Blessings for my brother, Ricky!
With Love in Christ, Joey
