John 14:13

13 No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends.

No Greater Love

by Joey Capuano

This Passage is perhaps the most important for us to remember as we recognize and commemorate Veteran’s Day on November 11, celebrating the veterans in our lives. Originally called Armistice Day, it was a day to celebrate the ending of World War I. This was supposed to be the war to end all wars. Very sadly, we know that because of our sinful nature and our quest for power as humans in the world, many wars have happened since, and many atrocities. But, as our Savior did, He showed that love is the greatest shield and force with which to protect ourselves against violence and any other harm!

Veterans have committed to living out this love to protect us and our families for centuries, and continue to do so. We are called to thank, celebrate, and love them for this selfless act of love. But, we should not do this only on Veteran’s Day. In our lives, we have opportunities every day to thank those that help us, veterans and other people in our lives. Especially in this month of Thanksgiving and with our messages of gratitude and giving thanks for the Graces that God has given us, can we work together to live our lives with a more grateful mindset, with “thank you” being on our lips rather than complaints or our quest for more and more material things?

We know that this Passage is really reminding us of the sacrifice that Jesus made for us, giving up His life - a flawless life without sin - to save us from our sins. For this reason, we always need to live in Thanksgiving of the Grace, Hope, and Love that is given to us freely - and without us doing anything to deserve them - from our Lord. And, we can also live our daily lives with this “attitude of gratitude” and Thanksgiving to show to God that we are living as the best Christians we can be.

Thank you, Veterans, and, even more importantly, as He always does, May God bless you!

Your friend,
Joey
