Devotion for this Week |
Prayers for Veterans and all affected by Hurricane Helene Read Psalm 27 |
Good early morning, everyone! I am up for the early wake up call to head off with Honor Flight to honor local veterans and see some of the monuments in Washington, D.C. I'll be traveling with my Dad, Kemper, and I was honored to support Tom Snook and Galen Dellinger last year on their flight. Rodney & Gloria Hildebrand have helped get this program "off the ground" so to speak and it is a great blessing to honor those who have served our nation. I'm thankful to be a part of a church that does so much to honor veterans along with Project Healing Waters and our Veterans recognition service that is coming up November 10th.
Also, I want to call you to prayer for those affected by Hurricane Helene. Remember our disaster organization of the church UMCOR (UM Committee on Relief www.umcor.org) and give as you are called and able.
Let's go to God in prayer:
Loving and Gracious God, Lord Jesus Christ and Holy Spirit,
O God, you are our God and we praise you. We thank you for loving us and knowing what is going on with every detail of our lives. God today we lift up those who will be on the roads traveling and we lift up those who gave their lives or a time in their lives to their nation to serve others through military service. We thank you for their service. We ask that you guide and protect those who are in service around the world now, those who fight and those who serve.
God, many people's lives have been turned upside down by hurricanes and natural disasters, also. We pray especially this morning for those affected by Hurricane Helene. We pray especially for the most vulnerable, for those in the Appalachia region. We thank you for those first responders and disaster workers who are already heading to those places to be of assistance, to restore order and to show your love to those in need. We pray that you will guide and protect them as well. Send your holy spirit and your light and your love, through human hands and feet and tools and hearts in places where there is fear and difficulty.
God, reign in us. Lead us step by step. In Jesus name, Amen |
Worship Notes |
Our Worship time is changing to 10 AM! Your responses to the Worship Committee's survey were very positive for the 10 AM service and, after discussion, our Church Council adopted the Worship Committee's recommendation that we continue to worship together at 10 AM. Thank you for your input and support!
THIS SUNDAY, September 29 we will wrap up our study of Nehemiah with the theme "Celebrating While Building."
Looking Ahead, October 6th is World Communion Sunday!
We need your help for special Sundays in November!
All Saints Sunday is the first Sunday in November. If you have a family member who has passed away in the last year (since Nov 1, 2023) and you would like for them to be remembered in our All Saints service, please let the office know (adminasst@bridgewaterumc.com)
We will recognize our Veterans and Active Duty Military on Sunday, November 10th. If someone in your family is a Veteran (living or deceased) or is currently serving our military, please give us their name, branch of service, and a picture that we can use in worship!
We are praying that all of the events and activities will be uplifting to you, your family, friends, and our community as we together lift Jesus high and spread his name and his love to all that we meet.
We welcome you to join us this Sunday in person or online! You can access our live stream from the website (www.bridgewaterumc.com). Click on "Sermons" and then "Live Steam." You may also join us directly on YouTube at Bridgewater UMC Virginia and click on the LIVE tab.

Hope Distributed Open House |
I wanted to invite you and your church members to one of two Open House opportunities at Hope Distributed. They are Tuesday October 15 and Wednesday October 16 from 9am - 1pm. These are drop in opportunities, but we will be giving tours of the food pantry as well as the clothing/Baby Hope warehouse and the Clothing Store.
This October we are celebrating 20 years of Hope Distributed and the immense impact this organization has made on those who live in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County. It is a great opportunity to see the size and scale of what our small staff and selfless volunteer army accomplish every week.
It is also a chance to dream with us and cast a vision for continuing to serve those in need in our community for another 20 years and beyond. Please prayerfully consider carving out some time in your already busy schedule to attend and see what the Lord has done!
