Welcome to the season of Lent. Lent is the 40 days leading to Easter. If you are counting along on the calendar, don't count Sundays because they are considered "mini-Easters." Lent is marked by "giving up" or fasting so that you have more time or resources to concentrate on God. Lent can also be seen as "taking on" an intentional spiritual practice to intentionally become closer to God. Either way, Lent is 40 days of spiritual preparation for Holy Week and Easter.
We will be "taking on" a sermon series focusing on the "I AM" statements of Jesus. Sermons will be based on the book "The God We Can Know" by Rob Fuquay. Rev. Fuquay is a United Methodist pastor in Indianapolis, IN. I have found his book very helpful. I hope that you will also be inspired.
Here is our Lent Sermon Series: 2/18 (Sunday): "I Am the Bread of Life" Knowing God's Satisfaction 2/25 - "I Am the Light of the World" Knowing God's Guidance 3/3 - "I am the Good Shepherd" Knowing God's Care 3/10 - Girl Scout / Scouting Sunday 3/17 - "I Am the Way the Truth and the Life" Knowing God's Way with Nathan May leading spiritual singing Palm Sunday is March 24 Easter Sunday is March 30!
Welcome to the season of Lent. As Peter said in last week's story, "Jesus, it is good that we are here." (Matthew 17:4) We will worship at 8:30 AM & 11 AM. Sunday School classes meet at 10 AM. There will be Kid's Time at both services. Nursery and Children's Church are both open.
Join us this Sunday in person or online! You can access our live stream from the website (www.bridgewaterumc.com). Click on "Sermons" and then "Live Steam." You may also join us directly on YouTube at Bridgewater UMC Virginia and click on the LIVE tab.

From Charterhouse School
Thank you for your generous donation to Charterhouse School. We appreciate you so much and will put this donation to good use for our students.
From UMFS - United Methodist Family Services
Thank you for your donation of $100.00 received on Thursday, January 18, 2024. We deeply appreciate your generous support of the children and families of UMFS. From our founding in 1900 as the Virginia Conference Orphanage, UMFS has partnered with local churches and church members like you to live out our mission. Today we serve children in foster care and children struggling with mental health and behavioral challenges through foster and adoption programs, specialized education schools, and residential treatment programs.
We are honored to partner with faithful people like you who serve as unwavering champions for high-risk children and families in Virginia. Your gift will help vulnerable children get the support they need to overcome challenging circumstances and achieve their full potential. We are grateful for your partnership with this mission.
From Shadrach Baako-Amponsah
Thank you so much for your generous donation towards my tuition this semester. I am very grateful. Thank you for the amazing breakfast fundraising.

Lent Devotion Booklets are Available from Society of St. Andrew The season of Lent is a time of self-examination and sacrifice. The various ways Christians observe Lent are as diverse as our personalities! We can sacrifice to get closer to God or we can take on something. In today's devotional A Living Hope, we are reminded that besides out eternal hope, we are called to share the living hope with others. |
