Open to me the gates of righteousness, that I may enter through them and give thanks to the LORD.
Save us, we beseech you, O LORD! O LORD, we beseech you, give us success!
We bless you from the house of the LORD. Bind the festal procession with branches, up to the horns of the altar.
You are my God, and I will give thanks to you; you are my God, I will extol you. Psalm 118:1-2, 19-29
This Sunday is Palm Sunday! We remember the day that Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey surrounded by his disciples, friends and followers. Everyone was praising God and shouting, "Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna! Hosanna!" What a wonderful day!
Jesus had told his disciples what was to come: that he would be arrested at the hands of the authorities and that he would give his life for them and for us. But it was hard to believe that Jesus, their rabbi, teacher, and friend would die in such a way. Would that be the end of their story?
One thing I know for sure about God is that God doesn't do endings without new beginnings. The cross wasn't the end of the story. And yet, it is a very important part for us to remember. It is important for us to hear the story again, for us to take it deeply into ourselves and seek the way of the cross and the life beyond the cross.
What does Holy Week mean to you? How will you set aside time to hear and pray about the meaning this story in your life this coming week? How do YOU respond to the story? Will you shout "Hosanna"? Share a meal with Jesus in the Upper Room? Deny him? Betray him? Fall asleep in the garden? Stand at the foot of the cross with the women? Will you love him and give all of your heart? Will you take up your cross and follow? Will you ask, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom"?
The journey begins...

From Bridgewater Area Inter-Church Food Pantry
On behalf of the Bridgewater Area Inter-Church Food Pantry, I am writing to express our heartfelt gratitude for the generous support that the Bridgewater United Methodist Church community has provided since the food pantry first opened decades ago Your commitment to addressing food insecurity in our community is deeply appreciated and has made a powerful impact on the lives of those we serve,
We thank you especially for your significant financial contributions, hosting several food drives throughout the year, and providing "treat bags" for children this past Christmas. A very special thank you to the Bridgewater United Methodist Women for their additional financial support as well as your church member volunteers who give of their time to ensure our operations. Your support has enabled us to stock our shelves with essential food items and provide assistance to our friends and neighbors in need.
We are truly grateful for the ongoing partnership between our food pantry and this church community. Thank you once again for your kindness and compassion, and we hope you will share our thanks churchwide. |
