I believe in God the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth... I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord... I believe in the Holy Spirit... (The Apostle's Creed)
The Sunday after Pentecost is traditionally Trinity Sunday. It is a day that we proclaim the great mystery of our one God who is experienced in three ways: God, Jesus, and Holy Spirit; Father, Son and Holy Ghost; Creator, Redeemer, Sustainer.
It calls to mind the word, "dynamic." Dynamic is a Bridgewater word with Dynamic Aviation so near us. I'm sure many names were considered for the business; I admit I don't know the history. Using the word "dynamic" means that they are on the move, active, innovative, alive, working and connecting in the company and in the community. The airplanes and the people who work are exploring, growing and flying. This is no airplane museum!
While the word "Trinity" is not in the Bible, we see the Holy Trinity reflected in scripture, especially when Jesus is baptized and in the Great Commission, "Go, therefore and make disciples of all the nations baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit." Matthew 28:19 There are other references throughout scripture.
One of the Greek words used by the early church fathers & mothers to describe God is "perichoresis" or divine dance. They described the Trinity as a community in motion, working together, constantly creating, always saving, and working for good. God is not static but dynamic and full of life.
C. S. Lewis wrote, "If you think of the Father as something out there, in front of you, and of the Son as someone standing at your side, helping you to pray, trying to turn you into another son, then you have to think of the third Person as something inside you, or behind you. Perhaps some people might find it easier to begin with the third Person and work backwards: God is love, and that love works through men [humanity} especially through the whole community of Christians. But this spirit of love, from all eternity, is a love going on between the Father and the Son (Mere Christianity, Pages 175176).
While there are times that we do truly need to "be still and know that I am God" (Psalm 46:10), when we serve together in harmony and peace, we re-present our dynamic, relational God. Join us this Sunday as we worship and praise our God -- "in three persons, Blessed Trinity!"
We welcome you to join us this Sunday in person or online! You can access our live stream from the website (www.bridgewaterumc.com). Click on "Sermons" and then "Live Steam." You may also join us directly on YouTube at Bridgewater UMC Virginia and click on the LIVE tab.

From Joan Kenney. Check out the Silent Auction this weekend to support Project Healing Waters!
Dear Friends of Project Healing Waters Mossy Creek Invitational,
Thank you for supporting the 15th Annual MCI event and fundraiser to be held on June 1st. We are fortunate to have the dedicated staff, volunteers and donors that make this event a fun day of healing and a fund day to support continued healing.
Please share this link with your family, friends and patrons as a way for them to participate in this great cause. For every $50 raised, a wounded Veteran or service person is supported for a month in one of the nationwide local programs. These programs provide the camaraderie of others while learning to tie flies, fish and experience the healing peace of being on the water.
We will start the auction on Thursday, May 23rd at 8 a.m. EST. Bidding will end on Saturday, June 1st at 4 p.m. EST. Here is the link: https://live.classy.org/
Again, thank you for all you have done and are doing to make this day a success.
To Healing on the Waters, Joan Kenney PHW-MCI Volunteer |

For the first 4 months, we ae keeping a positive number, ever so thin. This is mostly a result of expense control as donations in April were down. Your continued support is appreciated.
The fundraising goal for our Painting Project is $20,000. To date, we have received $3,500. |
